3L News: Free Agents File
Friday, December 31st, 2021
The opening day of 3L free agency arrives today with a flurry of activity as players file their paperwork to become free agents.
For the next several months, players and their prospective suitors will be locked in fierce negotiations. Deals will come together, fall apart and be resurrected again. Teams will fight to meet their needs while staying within their budget. Throughout the process, there will be second-guessing from fans and media alike. Even players who remain under contract will keep an eye on things, curious as to who will be sharing their locker room in the coming season and whether that bodes well or ill for their own careers.
Months from now, when the free agency period has settled down, fans will finally get a glimpse at the latest version of their team.
A number of quality players have filed for free agency and could generate a lot of interest. Most notable among them are:
Eiji Suzuki, 36 year-old 2B Aurelio Vázquez, 34 year-old 1B Makoto Kato, 33 year-old RH RP Luis Rodríguez, 34 year-old C Kumanosuke Abe, 26 year-old SS Christian Bates, 36 year-old RH SP Juan Sánchez, 31 year-old C Tony Reynolds, 31 year-old 1B John Downing, 31 year-old LF Juan Chávez, 36 year-old RH SP

3L News: Draft Pool Revealed
Monday, December 27th, 2021
Menard's Third League announced the 2021 amateur draft pool today, a scant 65 days in advance of the actual draft. For scouts, it is the toughest challenge of the season, trying to come up with an educated guess as to what a young man in his late teens or early twenties is going to do at the professional level a good five years down the road, at best. Some will go on gut instincts; some will rely on years of experience; but most will find it disconcerting how much their team is beholden to Lady Luck. Choose well and they are geniuses; choose poorly and they are unemployed.
A complete rundown of the draft list is available in the Transactions area for quick reference and will be available 65 days before the draft.
The top players available (in no particular order) seem to be: 1. José Zavala, 20 year-old RHP out of college. 2. Edgar Cantú, 22 year-old LHP out of college. 3. Luis Peńa, 19 year-old LHP out of high-school. 4. Charles Dobson, 20 year-old LHP out of college. 5. Melvin Haney, 22 year-old RHP out of college. 6. Jeff Green, 23 year-old C out of college. 7. Jeff Bradshaw, 20 year-old LHP out of college. 8. Bill Sheehan, 19 year-old SS out of high-school. 9. Tony Justice, 22 year-old SS out of college. 10. Tyler Jones, 20 year-old 1B out of college.
You can find the draft pool in the league transactions screen (league menu).
