Ward Blasts Voodoo, Rainbow Mermaids Take Game 1, 9-6
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids started the ToC First Round in style today, winning on the road against the New Orleans Voodoo at The Voodoo Lounge by a score of 9-6 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Rainbow Mermaids left fielder Ed Ward excelled. He was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3.

Northern Virginia relied on the hitting of Gerben Pauw to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 9-2. For the game, Pauw had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"It's nice to come out on top today," said Pauw.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Voodoo Lounge in New Orleans.
