Mississippi rode a decent outing from starter Alex Thompson to victory over the Greenville 84s. The final score was 5-3. Mississippi reliever Kyle Horton picked up the win to move to 1-0. Ari Schaller suffered the loss. The Mockingbirds, now 2-0, have stormed out of the gates.

Mississippi used a clutch hit from Gary Noke to snatch the win. The catcher belted a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mockingbirds ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was huge.

"We did a lot of things right," said Thompson.
