Voodoo Defeat Pandas, 7-1
|
Montana had no answer for New Orleans Voodoo hurler Ronnie Gómez, who overwhelmed Pandas hitters as the Voodoo coasted to victory, 7-1. Gómez, now 16-1, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 7, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. The Voodoo lead the Premier League by 2½ games.
The Voodoo got an important contribution from first baseman Pepe Santos, who in the bottom of the fifth knocked a 0-1 fastball into right-center for a run-scoring double. It was his 13th double of the season and put the Voodoo ahead, 1-0.
"This was a good win for us," said Santos. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
