Voodoo Scratch and Claw to 8-5 Win
|
The New Orleans Voodoo topped the Athletic Club KC, 8-5, in United States Premier League action at Athletics Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of New Orleans pitcher Rock DeVote. New Orleans reliever Elton Ray picked up the win, upping his record to 2-3. Ton van Aerden absorbed the loss. George Atwater collected save number 15.
New Orleans used a well-timed hit by Ed Mooney to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Voodoo ahead, 5-3. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"We take it day by day here," said Mooney, "and today was a good one for us."
At 48-33, the Voodoo have a slim two-game lead in the Premier League.
