The Boston Patriots topped the San Mateo Dirty Reds, 10-5, with youngster Jean Kools playing a key role. Kools went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the Patriots in the win. Picking up the win was Iiri Lahti. He went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits. The right--hander struck out 6 and walked 1. The loss puts San Mateo at 9-9.

With Boston leading 5-3 in the top of the fifth, Kools came up to bat against San Mateo pitcher Sylvain Richard. Kools hit a fastball to left-center for a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season put the Patriots on top, 8-3.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Kools said.
