Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Patriots
|
The Patriots grabbed a win, 5-3, at Athletics Park, overcoming a fine effort from Athletic Club KC pitcher Conor March. March went 6 innings and allowed no runs. Juan Valseca, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-3. He pitched 8.1 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 10 and walking 2. Boston is now 44-45.
Boston used the clutch hitting of Kel Jones to snag the win. The left fielder drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Patriots ahead, 5-3. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"This was a good win," said Jones.
