Mockingbirds Suffer 5-2 Setback
|
Greenville played host to Mississippi at 84s Field.
The Mississippi Mockingbirds got a superb performance from pitcher Alfredo Rincón. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Greenville. The 84s won the game, 5-2. Rincón threw 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Elton Ray closed the door for Greenville, picking up his 6th save of the year.
Had Héctor Coríz not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Coríz hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the 84s.
Coríz told a Greenville Gazette reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
Greenville is in 4th place in the Premier League with a record of 16-14.
