A good performance from catcher Steve Martínez helped the MSL Toledo Stingers defeat the MSL Santa Catalina Condor, 8-5. Martínez was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Stingers. Steve Campbell, the winner, improved to 4-2. He held the Condor to 5 runs on 6 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 8 and walking 3. Moanna Eutakio picked up the save for MSL Toledo, his 8th of the year.
Martínez contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for MSL Toledo in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-2, Martínez took a slider from Mo Hollow and stroked the double to left. His 7th double of the season allowed the Stingers to leap in front, 4-3.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Martínez told the MSL Toledo Today.
The first-place Stingers go to 28-16.
