Riikonen Hits 2 home runs in Guinea Pigs Win
The Gwinnett Guinea Pigs topped the Squirrel Hill Pierogis, 9-7, with first baseman Ahti Riikonen playing a big role. Riikonen went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 and driving in 2 for the Guinea Pigs in the win. Gwinnett reliever Norio Uchiyama picked up the win, raising his record to 5-3. Jim Givens was tagged with the loss. The 4th-place Guinea Pigs have won 4 straight.

Gwinnett used the bat of Charles MacMurdo to capture the win. The designated hitter jacked a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Guinea Pigs ahead, 3-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Riikonen, "but we got it done."
