Mercado Excels in 5-4 Squirrel Hill Win
|
José Mercado was a major factor in the 5-4 Squirrel Hill win over Olympia. The Pierogis center fielder was 3-4 with a home run and 2 doubles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Hyeong-ro Yi, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-4. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 2. The last-place Ogres have dropped 11 straight games.
With Squirrel Hill leading 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, Mercado hit a sinker from Bob Daniel for a run-scoring double. It was his 13th double of the season and put the Pierogis ahead, 5-3.
