The Virginia Beach Whales got a strong performance from pitcher Shawn Walker, who stymied the Mercer Island offense en route to a win, 6-2, at Mercer Island Grounds. The winning pitcher was Walker, now 5-8. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 8. The Whales improve their record to 44-42 with the win over Mercer Island.

Virginia Beach used the clutch hitting of Jesús Fernández to snag the win. The designated hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Whales ahead, 6-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.

"Being able to contribute to a win is always a great feeling," Walker told the Virginia Beach Citizen.
