Guinea Pigs Beat Pierogis, 5-2
|
The Gwinnett Guinea Pigs got a stellar effort from pitcher Ji-chor Ho, helping Gwinnett score a win over the visiting Squirrel Hill Pierogis, 5-2. Ho, now 2-1, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Rex Davis collected his 19th save.
The Pierogis had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Guinea Pigs going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old first baseman Ahti Riikonen came to the plate. Riikonen hit a bases-clearing double on a 1-1 fastball from Squirrel Hill hurler Hyeong-ro Yi. It was Riikonen's 3rd double of the year.
"Ji-chor made his pitches," said Gwinnett manager William Edens.
With the victory, the Guinea Pigs record now stands at 41-32.
