Mercer Island starter Luis Gutiérrez had a strong outing against the Olympia Ogres at The Ogre Den. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-3 win. The second-place Screaming Eagles are now 23-8, the Ogres 10-21.

Mercer Island first baseman Shichirobei Hisamatsu said he was just trying to make contact when he came to bat with the bases empty in the top of the sixth. He did more than that -- Hisamatsu hit a solo home run to stake Mercer Island to a 2-1 lead. His 9th home run of the season came off Olympia pitcher Javier Dávila.

"We did enough to win," said Hisamatsu.
