Fighting Imps Fall Short, 6-5, at Mercer Island
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles overcame a fine performance by Ithaca right fielder Jon Hersey to defeat the Fighting Imps, 6-5, at Mercer Island Grounds. Hersey went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. Stuart Fossett snagged the win in relief. In 3.2 innings, the right-hander allowed 2 runs on 4 hits. He's now 1-0 on the season. Connor Wilson recorded the save, his 2nd.
Tied up with the Fighting Imps in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Screaming Eagles got a boost from center fielder Kelsey Pérez. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Pérez saw a 2-1 splitter from Millard Clement and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Mercer Island on top, 4-3.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Pérez told the Mercer Island Times.
The Fighting Imps have now dropped 5 straight.
