Thomas Excels, But Thunder Hawks Win
The Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks overcame a fine performance by Ithaca third baseman Mark Thomas to defeat the Fighting Imps, 7-5, at Imps Park. Thomas belted 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Teddy Barnes, the winner, goes to 4-0. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with no walks and 2 strikeouts over 5.2 innings. Dave Bass earned the save, his 1st, for the Thunder Hawks.

Ft. Polk South relied on the bat of Wallace Sanders to get the win. The designated hitter produced a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Thunder Hawks ahead, 6-4. For the game, Sanders had 2 doubles and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Sanders told the Ft. Polk South Times. "But we take nothing for granted."

The Fighting Imps, now 4-8, continue their poor start.
