The Squirrel Hill Pierogis had to overcome a fine effort from Ithaca pitcher Bill Strain to grab a narrow 6-5 win at Field of the Rawhides. Strain went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. Ithaca drops to 1-3.

The Pierogis procured the win, in large part because of third baseman Alfonso Chávez. In the bottom of the 13th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Ithaca manager Gary Thomas. "But we decided not to take it."
