Godfathers Deal River Rats 6-5 Setback
|
The Pontiac Godfathers defeated the Columbia River Rats, 6-5. Doing his part was third baseman Rafael Islava, who went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Steve Sanford, who threw 112 pitches over 6.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 5 runs on 8 hits. The save went to Vicente Arroyo, his 11th this season.
Had Don Callahan not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Callahan hit a 2-run double. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Godfathers.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Columbia manager Kevin McCoy. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
The Godfathers are now 25-46, while the River Rats fall to 39-32.
