Curtis Powers Godfathers to 9-2 Win
|
With center fielder Robert Curtis leading the charge, the Pontiac Godfathers defeated the Washington Generals, 9-2, at Pontiac Copperdome. Curtis went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Picking up the win was Steve Sanford. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. The right--hander struck out 6 and walked 5. Pontiac is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 5th in 16 games.
The Godfathers got an important contribution from shortstop Kendrick Cook, who in the bottom of the fourth hit a changeup into center for a 2-run double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Godfathers ahead, 6-2.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Cook told the Pontiac Today. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
