Highlanders Take Down Polar Bears, 5-4
|
The Asheville Highlanders had to overcome a fine effort from Billings pitcher Neung-uk Yi to grab a narrow 5-4 win at The Igloo. Yi went 6 innings and allowed 4 runs. Ichiro Kumagai was the winning pitcher. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. The third-place Highlanders are now 40-31, the Polar Bears 44-27.
Asheville used a well-timed hit by Nathan Pretty to capture the win. The second baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the second inning to put the Highlanders ahead, 4-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Pretty told the Asheville Chronicle. "But we take nothing for granted."
