Late Magic Gets Marquette 3-1 Win
|
In a low-scoring game between the Marquette Miners and the Billings Polar Bears, pitcher Alberto Jiménez was masterful on the mound. The Marquette right-hander spearheaded his team's 3-1 win. Marquette reliever Ambrosi Pigafetta picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Gareth Hammer was saddled with the loss. Picking up the save was Javier Cuesta, his 14th.
Marquette needed the clutch hitting of Eric Heath to notch the win. The right fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Miners on top, 3-1. For the game, Heath had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Every loss hurts," said Billings manager Marvin Nelson. "But this was a tough one."
Marquette occupies 5th place in the Menard's AA at 32-28.
