Suzuki Put in Cooler, Hitless Against Bethlehem
Friday, July 9th , 2049
Late in the game, all eyes in Kittie Park were on Kazunori Suzuki as he stepped into the batter box. His 25-game hitting streak was on the line, and he had a zero in the hit column on the day. Sadly for Suzuki, it was not meant to be -- the zero would stay and the streak would end.
If there was a silver lining for Suzuki today, it was that his North Ft. Myers Gators won the game anyway, stopping the Bethlehem Angel Kitties by the score of 3-2.
"Winning took some of the disappointment out of it," Suzuki told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 25 straight games. It's something I will always remember."
So far this season Suzuki is batting .326 with 10 home runs, 36 RBIs and 46 runs scored. He has 70 hits in 215 at-bats, 24 walks and a .390 OBP. Suzuki has played in 52 games.
