Oakland got a terrific performance from pitcher Nick Joseph, but it wasn't enough to beat the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC. Thunder Bay won the The Oak Grove contest, 6-3. Joseph threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Fred Jerger, now 4-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 3 hits in 4 innings. Thunder Bay, now 26-23, holds down 5th place in the Third League.

Thunder Bay used the timely hitting of Millard Carr to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Northern Lions BC on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Thunder Bay manager Scott Williams.
