Kawaguchi Helps Patriots Beat Dirty Reds, 5-4
|
In a close game at Lang Park, the Boston Patriots edged the San Mateo Dirty Reds, 5-4. Boston designated hitter Masafumi Kawaguchi stood apart with his performance. He was 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Boston reliever Luke Corner picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Gavriil Wolfson was saddled with the loss. Jack Buyse converted his 1st save in 1 tries.
Boston used the timely hitting of Thiago Yepes to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Patriots ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I still think this team can play even better," Yepes told the Boston Bulletin.
Boston has now won 4 straight.
