Hernández and Downs Suspended for Free-for-All Saturday, June 3rd , 2045 Yesterday at Goodyear Hanger Dome Jorge Hernández and Jonathan Downs got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Akron Blimps and Irving Blue Sox. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Hernández will have to sit out 5 while Downs would be given a 10-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. This season Hernández has hit at a .214 clip with 9 RBIs, 5 home runs and 7 runs scored. He has played in 20 games. This season Downs has compiled a 2-3 record with a 4.00 ERA. |
