Asuncion Raps 3 HR Against Blimps
Thursday, August 3rd , 2045
Jose Asuncion brutalized the Akron Blimps pitching staff, launching three home runs in today's 13-4 victory at Heron Field. The Lake Minnetonka Love Boats third baseman was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day.
"I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one."
For the game, he went 4-for-4 with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored.
"Too much Jose Asuncion today," Blimps manager Noel Ballard said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to."
Jose Asuncion hit a solo-shot off Raúl Nieves in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off Raúl Nieves in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Marty Graham in the 7th and walked in the 8th.
In his stats this season, Asuncion has posted a batting average of .310 with 35 hits in 113 at-bats, 6 home runs and 27 RBIs. He has also scored 16 runs, walked 16 times and compiled a .391 OBP.
