Lieftink Handcuffs Polar Bears, Loons Seize 2-1 Advantage in R1
Marx Lieftink pitched a gem to help the Minnesota Loons escape with a tight 2-0 victory over the Billings Polar Bears in a low-scoring 3L AA Championship contest today. The right-handed Lieftink threw 8.2 innings of shutout ball in the win, just enough for the Loons on a day when their offense dried up. Minnesota now leads the best-of-5 series 2-1.

The Loons liked what they saw from Lieftink. The 22-year old pitcher had a commanding presence on the mound, limiting the Polar Bears to no runs on 1 hit over 8.2 innings, and striking out 10.

"It has been an incredible experience today," Lieftink said in the clubhouse following the game. "It's a short list of people who have started in the 3L AA Championship at all, and an even shorter list who have done a good job of it."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Loony Bin in Blaine.
