The Comets faced a stiff challenge from Yucca Valley pitcher León Martínez, but persevered to claim a win at Ballpark of Yucca Valley. The final score was 2-1. Martínez went 7.1 innings and allowed 1 run. Cédric Barbot picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Danny Kas was tagged with the loss. With the loss, Yucca Valley drops to 8-7.
Kent got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Claude Harper. The catcher stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Comets ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"Enjoyed this one," Harper told the Kent Bulletin. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
