Caterpillars Edge Godfathers, 6-5
|
Pontiac second baseman Mike Sherman was sensational. He went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Grand Forks beat the Godfathers, 6-5. Stu Sutherland picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Conor Wrottesley was tagged with the loss. Bobby Taylor closed the door for Grand Forks, picking up his 1st save of the year.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Manuel Alea came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Pontiac pitcher Victor Brown, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Grand Forks on top, 6-5.
In comments to the Grand Forks News, Alea insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
Grand Forks goes to 5-5.
