Patriots Stumble, Lose to 84s
|
The Boston Patriots got a superb performance from shortstop Juan Lugo. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Greenville. The 84s won the game, 8-3. Lugo was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Modeste Azagba, the winner, improved to 8-1. He held the Patriots to 2 runs on 4 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Greenville improves to 53-34 with the win. They lead their division by 2½ games.
The 84s got a big at-bat from third baseman António Macías, who in the bottom of the third hit a grand slam home run. It was his 19th home run of the season and put the 84s on top, 4-0.
"We maximized our offense today," said Greenville skipper John Bosma. "That makes everyone's life easier."
