Polar Bears Topple Love Boats, 3-1
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Billings Polar Bears and the Lake Minnetonka Love Boats. Billings won it, 3-1. Billings starter Stewart Clapp was in command. Clapp, now 1-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 1, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Stu Sutherland was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 7 of 8 save opportunities.
The Love Boats had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Polar Bears going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 19-year old right fielder Dhataki Pummy came to the plate. Pummy hit a run-scoring triple on a first pitch fastball from Lake Minnetonka hurler José García. It was Pummy's 4th triple of the year.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Polar Bears manager Marvin Nelson, "I like our chances."
With the victory, the Polar Bears upped their record to 54-30.
