Blue Sox Get One-Run Win at Yakima
|
The Yakima Hops got a superb performance from pitcher Al Hensley. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Irving. The Blue Sox won the game, 4-3. Hensley came in in relief and pitched to 18 batters. Nate Flores earned the save for Irving, his 10th of the year. The 8th-place Blue Sox are now 39-44, the Hops 40-43.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Kevin Davis? The Irving designated hitter had a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Blue Sox on top, 3-1. For the game, Davis had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Yakima manager Gerald Clark said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
