Blue Sox Outmuscle Toledo, 10-8
|
Behind a solid performance from right fielder Alejandro De La Cerdo, the Irving Blue Sox defeated the Toledo Saboteurs, 10-8. De La Cerdo went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 4 for the Blue Sox. Jun-soo P'il got the win, improving to 1-4. He worked 7.2 innings, giving up 8 runs on 12 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 2. Nate Flores notched his 6th save in 8 chances.
De La Cerdo contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Irving in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, De La Cerdo took a changeup from Darwin McGinnity and stroked the double to left. His 7th double of the season allowed the Blue Sox to leap in front, 2-1.
In postgame comments to the Irving Gazette, De La Cerdo said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The 8th-place Blue Sox lifted their record to 31-33.
