Hops Deal Polar Bears 5-3 Loss
|
Billings got a terrific game from center fielder Archie Hillson. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Yakima, 5-3. Hillson went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. David López picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-3. Iván Molina was tagged with the loss. Marvin McDermott, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 11th save.
The result might have been different, had it not been for Barry Miller, the Yakima shortstop. Miller had a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Hops ahead, 4-3. For the game, Miller had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"I still have a lot of confidence in this team," Yakima manager Gerald Clark said afterward.
The last-place Hops improved to 17-31.
