Akron starter Raúl Nieves pitched well against the Ithaca Fighting Imps at Goodyear Hanger Dome. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-3. Bret West picked up the save, his 4th. The win puts Akron at 6-3.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Blimps had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when center fielder Ernie Lewis hit a 2-run single. The single came off Damarco Lyons and made the score 2-0, Blimps. Lewis went 2-4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
Nieves called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
