Rainbow Mermaids Get Past Long Island for 8-7 Win
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids overcame a good performance by Long Island designated hitter David de Meij to knock off Long Island, 8-7, at The Lighthouse. de Meij went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Long Island's current losing streak has reached 6 games.

Northern Virginia used a clutch hit from Sherman Kline to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids ahead, 8-7. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"The name of the game is scoring runs," Kline said. "We did a good job of that today."
