Rainbow Mermaids Lose to Battery, 7-6
The Charleston Battery relied on the hitting of designated hitter Benno Luby to stop the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 7-6. For the game, Luby was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The 7th-place Battery raised their record to 22-26.

The Battery beat the Rainbow Mermaids with some clutch hitting. The single by Gerold Kent in the bottom of the eighth is a good example. With two down, Kent gave his team the lead, 6-4, when he came through with the big hit.

"Winning never gets dull," said Kent.
