Young 3-4, Kingfishers Move to 67-42
|
The Pittsburgh Kingfishers beat the Seattle Rocketeers, 8-2, at Pittsburgh Grounds. The win was largely due to the efforts of catcher Junior Young, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-4 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Pittsburgh reliever Phil Steur was the winner. His record is now 7-3. The losing pitcher was Tim Tate. The Kingfishers bumped their record to 67-42 with this latest triumph.
Marcus Shill had a big 2-run double for the Kingfishers in the bottom of the first inning. With Pittsburgh leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Tim Tate and stroked the double to left-center. It was his 8th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Kingfishers ahead, 3-0.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Young told the Pittsburgh Daily News.
