Almost There: Pittsburgh On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 3-2 Win
Game was big. So was Zhao-ji Qiu.

The Pittsburgh starter rose to the occasion at Atlantica today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Kingfishers to a crucial 3-2 victory over the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids. Qiu threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball as the Kingfishers won on the road to seize a - lead in the best-of- Silver League Championship.

Pittsburgh used the bat of Kjartan Einarsson to get the win. The shortstop hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Kingfishers ahead, 3-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"By the skin of our teeth, man," Qiu told the Pittsburgh Daily News. "But hey, it still counts. A few more by the skin of our teeth is fine with me."
