Víctor Cuevas was instrumental in his team's 5-3 triumph over the Colorado Billy Goats. The first baseman was 3-4 with 2 doubles for the Detroit Elite. Gilberto Medina got the win, improving to 5-8. He held the Billy Goats to 3 earned runs on 6 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 6. Maverick McNealy sewed up the save, his 11th.
With Detroit leading 2-1 in the top of the fifth, Cuevas came up to bat against Colorado pitcher Octavius Pringle. Cuevas hit a fastball to center for a run-scoring double. His 9th double of the season put the Elite on top, 3-1.
"We'll savor this win," Cuevas told the Detroit Herald, "then get ready for the next game."
The 8th-place Elite now have a win-loss record of 29-36.
