Still Kicking: San Mateo Cut Panama City Series Lead to - With Late Win
|
The San Mateo Dirty Reds took the first game of the Silver League Championship in dramatic fashion today, topping the Panama City Piranhas 4-3 in an extra-inning walk-off win. Dirty Reds right-hander Justin Frederick was selected player of the game, as he threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball.
San Mateo won the game in the bottom of the 11th inning. With one out and José Rosales on the mound for Panama City, right fielder Esteban Sifuentes hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Dirty Reds fans to their feet.
"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win the home games," Sifuentes said afterward. "It feels nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to do."
