Ashley Twirls No-Hitter Against Elite
The Mississippi Mockingbirds relied on no-hit stuff from starter Gary Ashley to defeat the Detroit Elite 1-0 at Detroit Stadium today.

"It's quite a thrill," Ashley told the media afterward. "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."

To get his name logged in the United States Silver League records, he stopped Detroit cold and hitless, surrendering no walks and fanning 9 of the 28 batters he faced.

Mississippi manager Beau Carsten was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that Ashley "made managing easy today."

"I didn't have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do," he said. "I didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter."

His record this year is 4-3 in 8 starts and Ashley has a 2.87 ERA.
