Bowties Fall Short at Kingston Township
|
The Buckhead Bowties got a superb performance from pitcher Kullervo Hostikka. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Kingston Township. The Knights won the game, 5-4. In spite of the loss, Hostikka was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Elroy Quaid, who went 8.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 12 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 1-1. Francisco Díaz closed the game out for Kingston Township, earning his 1st save.
Takenao Wakabayashi tagged a home run off Millard Whipp in the bottom of the eighth. His 2-run blast put the Knights on top, 5-4. In all, Wakabayashi had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Wakabayashi, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
The defending champion Knights have struggled a bit to find their groove this season, but improve to 9-11 with the win.
