Lighthouse Lose to Dirty Reds, 7-4
|
Long Island got a terrific performance from pitcher Greg Hodge, but it wasn't enough to beat the San Mateo Dirty Reds. San Mateo won the The Lighthouse contest, 7-4. Hodge was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. Juan Moreno picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 8 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 1. On the season, he is now 1-0. Jefferson Suhendro locked down his 1st save.
Had Javier Sierra not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Sierra hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Dirty Reds.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Sierra. "Just do my job."
With the win, San Mateo boosts its record to 2-1.
