Howard Lights Out in Shutout Win
Thursday, October 10th, 2041
Nolan Howard of the Long Island Lighthouse was on top of his game today.
The 29-year-old tantalized the Toledo Stingers with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 1-0 shutout.
"He had the changeup working," Toledo manager TJ Reynolds said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Long Island hurler had 5 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.
Howard told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
For this year Howard has chalked up 10 wins and 10 losses in 22 starts with 131 strikeouts in 148.1 innings and a 3.03 ERA.
