Poetry in Motion: Fitzgerald Pitches Perfect Game Monday, September 23rd, 2041 As only a few players before him have done, Fitzgerald achieved perfection at Pacesetter Park today, and entered baseball history. Taking the mound for the Toledo Stingers, Fitzgerald flawlessly retired all 27 batters he faced for a perfect game against the Echo Park Lakers. The final score was 2-0. A total of 11 batters struck out against Fitzgerald, who showed great control as he walked none. There were no baserunners in the game, nor errors. "I'm still having a hard time accepting that this really happened," Fitzgerald told reporters after the game. "The standing ovation and the curtain calls were more than I ever expected. I want to thank the fans, my family, and most of all my teammates. I would like to thank the Echo Park Lakers, too. They helped me out a lot today by swinging when they shouldn't have."
