Almost There: Pittsburgh On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 6-1 Win
The Pittsburgh Kingfishers moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the visiting San Mateo Dirty Reds at Pittsburgh Grounds by a score of 6-1. Kingfishers catcher Junior Young was named player of the game after he went 3 for 3 with 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The win gives the Kingfishers a - advantage in the best-of- Third League Championship.

In the bottom of the third, Pittsburgh third baseman Yeow-whye Zhu had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and no one out, Zhu stroked a 3-run home run to right. It made the score 3-0, Pittsburgh. For the game, he went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
