Oaks Win at Panama City, 5-3
|
Panama City got a terrific performance from pitcher Masahiro Sakei, but it wasn't enough to beat the Oakland Oaks. Oakland won the The Tank contest, 5-3. Sakei was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. Reliever Fernando Varela picked up the win. His record improves to 3-5. Masahiro Sakei took the loss. After today's action, Oakland sits at 37-58, while Panama City falls to 52-43.
Oakland used the bat of Eugene Bowman to capture the win. The third baseman jacked a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Oaks ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a dandy.
In postgame comments to the Oakland Daily News, Bowman said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
