Rocketeers Score Late, Upend Dodgers, 4-2
|
Brooklyn got a terrific performance from pitcher Rod Watts, but it wasn't enough to beat the Seattle Rocketeers. Seattle won the Ebbetts Field contest, 4-2. Watts was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball. Seattle reliever Gregory Powers was the winner. His record is now 1-4. Tom DeHart took the loss. With the win, the Rocketeers have a record of 49-35.
Seattle used the timely hitting of Mathew Mayo to capture the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rocketeers on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Seattle manager Andrew Powell.
