Pittsburgh got a first-rate effort from pitcher Nam-shik Kwak, who frustrated Echo Park hitters en route to a 2-1 Kingfishers triumph at LA Forum. Kwak, the winner, moves to 6-9. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. Wes Gilmore closed the game out for Pittsburgh, earning his 2nd save.
Yeow-whye Zhu dealt the Lakers a blow in the top of the fifth. Batting with a runner on 2nd and Pittsburgh leading 1-0, Zhu, who is tied for 9th in the 3L with a .892 OPS, hit a 1-1 cutter for a run-scoring double.
Afterward, Kingfishers manager Tyler Johnson was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
The Lakers, at 21-60, have lost 6 straight games.
